4/11/2009 12:49:29 PM eBay Buyer Beware - If you are considering buying a Magellan GPS on eBay or from a non certified Magellan dealer please read this announcement.

Purchases made on eBay (unless from Authorised Magellan Dealers), other online auction sites and via non registered Magellan dealers are deemed to be second hand purchases and will not be supported under Magellan’s warranty.  Magellan warranties are not transferable and regardless of what the seller may say, they will not be covered under warranty.

Buyers often purchase the units online believing they are new and Australianised when generally they are not.  Those that  have an illegally loaded Australian base map are in breach of Australian copyright laws and the unit may be confiscated and the seller and purchaser prosecuted.  Those that have a foreign base map may not be compatible with Magellan mapping produced for Australia and may require an Australian base map to be installed at a  cost.

Only product purchased directly from the Next Destination web site or from authorised Australian retailers will be covered by Next Destination under Magellan’s warranty. Units purchased outside of Australia via authorised Magellan Dealers will incur a $55 handling fee. Limited warranty may be honoured to certain internet purchases, but no warranty will be honoured via eBay purchases unless from an Authorised Retailer.  Authorised eBay Magellan resellars will have Authorised Australian Dealer in the eBay listing.

·  If there is an RF melted into the case rear (top left) then this is a refurbished unit that is not meant for general sale.
·  These units are not legal to sell and we hope to have shut down their supplier.
·  Neither Next Destination nor Magellan will cover these purchases under warranty.

“I have just purchased an eXplorist 500 from… in Greensborough, Vic and cannot get the battery to charge. It works fine when connected to mains power but as soon as you remove it, it fades and fails to work (has a rechargeable battery) is this common and if so can you advise how it can be fixed etc … thanks”  G.G.  SA

·  Some eBay sellers are grey importers, selling second hand Magellan GPS units as new.
·  We have tried to cease their operation to protect the seller.
·  If the unit has an Australian base map loaded on it, it is an illegal copy and will be removed if the unit is ever sent to Next Destination for any repairs.
·  Neither Next Destination nor Magellan will cover these purchases under warranty.

“I have just purchased a Magellan eXplorist XL from a seller on eBay. He claims the unit has full factory warranty and Australian mapping but when it arrived the mapping was North American. If I send the gps to you can you put the Australian map in it please?”  R.B. Melbourne

·  In this instance we can load an Australian base map at a cost of $299 plus freight.  However this still will not provide you with any warranty.
·  Magellan warranties are none transferable and any purchases made through none certified Magellan dealers are therefore deemed as second hand and not redeemable.
·  If the unit fails you can try contacting the eBay trader for a refund or warranty service, however as they will have to send the GPS to the USA at great cost to themselves they will most likely refuse.

For your protection we have contacted shonky eBay traders advising them that we do not offer any support to their customers and that they can be in breach of copyright if they sell a Magellan product as "new" with an Australian Basemap.
