Q:Where can i find Drivers for my Triton GPS?

A: Install Vantage Point (VP) and all Triton drivers are copied to the computer. If you need to reinstall the drivers after VP is installed they are copied to C:\MagellanDrivers folder.

Q:Can i connect a Triton to Oziexplorer

A: The Triton will connect to OziExplorer if you want to use the moving map function.  Make sure the GPS make is set to Magellan, and the GPS Model is set to Magellan USB.  Then put the Triton to NMEA - USB mode, V2.1 GSA under the Settings->Connectivity menu in the Triton.  You will need the lastest firmware in the Triton for this to work. If you dont know what com port your GPS is connected to, you can download the GPS Port Checker tool from the Oziexplorer website.  Goto http://www.oziexplorer3.com/utils/gps_port_checker.html for instructions and to download the tool.

If you want to transfer waypoints to/from Oziexplorer to your Triton, you will need to use the Magellan VantagePoint to act as the transfer tool.

To export waypoints out of the Triton to load into Oziexplorer do the following:

  1. Synchronize your GPS in VantagePoint
  2. Find the Exchange tab and select EXPORT
  3. Select what you want to export
  4. Choose GPS eXchange files (*.gpx) as the file type
  5. Save the file to your hard drive.
  6. In Oziexplorer, to load these files simply go to File->load from file->Import GPX file (Wps & Tracks) and find the file you saved earlier from VantagePoint export.
  7. Your waypoints and Tracks should now be loaded into Oziexplorer.

To save waypoints/tracks from Oziexplorer into the Triton

  1. In Oziexplorer goto File->Save To File->Export to GPX file (Wps & Tracks)
  2. Save the file to your hard drive
  3. Open VantagePoint
  4. Find the Exchange tab and select IMPORT
  5. Tick what features you would like to import.  eg Waypoints and Tracks
  6. Select GPS eXchange files (*.gpx)
  7. Select the file that you saved earlier from Oziexplorer.
  8. Click Finish once done.
  9. Make sure your Triton is connected to your computer, then select Synchronize.

Q: Can i use Triton for Real Time moving map?

A: Yes Vantage Point now has a GPS Log feature that enables moving map. Set the Triton GPS to NMEA v2.1GSA.

Q: How and Why do I need to upgrade the firmware on the Triton?

A: The firmware of the GPS is the internal programing of the device that makes it work. Much like your desktop computer, updates are made by Magellan to improve the GPS performance and add new features. So to make sure your gps is always running to its full potential make sure you regularly connect it to a computer on the internet and check for updates.  You will need VantagePoint to install the latest firmware onto your Triton.  VantagePoint is included in the packaging of your Triton 300, 400, 500, 1500 & 2000.  Once you connect your Triton to VantagePoint, VantagePoint will automatically detect what firmware you have in your GPS, and update it via the internet if there is a newer firmware release.

Q: My Triton only has three Datums?

A: Please connect to Vantage Point to install the latest firmware.

Q: What Australian maps are compatible with my Triton?

A: Currently DiscoverAus Streets and Tracks Topo, DiscoverAus Outback Tourer (no street routing feature), DiscoverAus NatMap Raster, DiscoverAus National Parks Raster and Bluenav XL3 Marine charts are compatible with the Triton. Please visit Magellangps.com for the availabilty of maps for other Countries.

MAPSEND LITE V2

Q: How do I load my Magellan Certified preloaded SD card to MapSend Lite V2 Beta

A: Download the step by step instructions how to tranfer your maps from the SD card to MapSend Lite V2 .  (eXplorist users only)  Click HERE for the instructions

Q:While trying to upload my detailed maps from my preloaded SD card into Mapsend Lite v2 I'm getting a "Map Initialization is required" message

A: The SD card is probably locked so Mapsend Lite cant initialize the Map.  To unlock the card, take the card out of the GPS, and slide the switch on the edge of the SD card upwards (towards the contact pins).  Reinsert the SD card into the GPS, put the GPS into File Transfer mode and try again.

Q:How do I connect my eXplorist 210, 400, 500, 600 or XL to Mapsend Lite V2 Beta
for real time tracking.

A: Download the step by step instructions on how to connect the eXplorist to your computer for real time tracking on Mapsend Lite V2. Click HERE for the instructions

Q: When adding a map to Mapsend Lite it asks me to Authorise my preloaded TOPO or Marine Card

A: This is due to SD card being WRITE protected. Slide the tab, found on the top left hand corner, up to UNLOCK.

Q:Why doesn't the STREET ROUTE function work?

A: MapSend Lite works with the whole family of MapSend products. Some of the products are routing maps. If this is the case, it will have an option called Street Route. Discover AUS TOPO on SD card is not a routable map and therefore the Street Route option is not available.

Q: What about trip planning?

A: For the purpose of trip planning, you will need to create a route or trip by hand using Mapsend lite

Q: Can I combine DiscoverAus Street & Tracks Topo with DiscoverAus Street-By-Street onto one SD Card.  Similarly can I copy my maps and put it on another SD card

A: Due to the copy protection system on the SD card, you are not able to combine maps from one Magellan Certified preloaded SD card to another.  ie you can't combine DiscoverAus Topo maps to DiscoverAus Street-By-Street to one card vice versa.  Also due to this copy protection you are not able to copy the map files off one card and transfer them to another different card.

EXPLORIST

Q: What software are eXplorists compatible with?

A: eXplorists are compatible with all the latest Magellan Mapsend family,Certified Maps such as DiscoverAus, and 3rd party software such as Oziexplorer,  GPSU and GPSEasy.

Q: What is the difference between NMEA and File Transfer Modes?

A: When the GPS is in File Transfer mode it appears as a removable drive on your computer. You can use this to copy Waypoints, Routes and Tracks to and from your PC. You also use this mode when transferring maps from your SD card to Mapsend Lite V2.

NMEA mode is used to communicate your position in real time for moving map functionality. V2.1 GSA should be selected.

Q:I have Windows 98, 98SE and ME and I can't get my eXplorist 400, 500, 600 or XL to connect via the USB port?

A:There isn't direct support for the eXplorist using Windows 98, 98SE and ME.  As a work around the Magellan Roadmate 300 drivers are compatible with the eXplorist.  You can download them from the Downloads section of this website.

Q: I have vista and cant use my eXplorist in NMEA Mode?

A: If you are running Microsoft Vista on your PC, you may need to download the Vista driver from the Download/Drivers & Patches section of this web site. This driver enables the explorist and other similar products to run as a modem and thereby enable realtime logging. File Transfer mode should use the standard Mass Storage Device drivers found in Vista.

Q: I cant find my POIs any longer and i have an invalidx file on my eXplorist?

A: Your POI file has become corrupted and has been renamed invalidx. Use My Computer to find the invalidx and rename it to filename.upt eg MyPois.upt

Q: My GPS300/310 time is racing and it won't find a satellite lock, numerous satellites are locked on, but the unit never goes to “Tracking”. When looking at the time screen, if the ENTER button is pressed, the time races forward,  the time cannot be correctly set?

A: To fix you need to clear the memory of the unit. To clear memory, with the gps turned OFF, hold down both the right arrow button ( -> ) and the PWR button at the same time. At the moment when  Magellan GPS 310 appears on the screen, release the PWR button but continue to hold the -> button for a further 3 or 4 seconds. The screen should now display “Delete Memory No / Yes”. Release the -> button and press it again to make YES flash. Press Enter. The unit will turn off.    Turn it on again and go through the screen prompts to initialize the unit... If the CLEAR MEMORY screen does not appear, turn the unit off and try again and again, and again until you get it. It should only take 4 or 5 attempts max.

GENERAL

Q: Why is my Trip Odometer reading different to the distance recorded in the Track Log?

A: The two features calculate distance in different ways. The trip odometer uses speed and time to calculate distance while the Track log measures the straight line distance between the track nodes (points) it records as you move.

Q: I have Lat/Long coordinates that have to many digits or not enough Digits when entering them into my gps?

A: There are different ways in expressing the coordinates computed using Lat/Lon coordinate system. With DEG/MIN/SEC the final set of numbers (SEC) is expressed as 0-59 while DEG/ MIN/MM expresses the same value as 0-99 and DEG/MIN/MMM is from 0-999. It would be the same as if you had one clock that expressed time as hour/minutes/seconds and another clock that expressed the same time as hours/minutes/decimals. The accuracy for any of the three is the same. Which you choose is dependent upon your preference or any chart you are using in conjunction. You should always make sure that your GPS is setup to be the same as any map or chart you may be using.

Q: What is Geocaching?

A: Geocaching is a game for GPS users. GPS users setup caches for other users to locate. To learn more about geocaching and finding locations visit www.geocache.com.

Q: Can I transfer my waypoints (POIs) to Google Earth?

A: Mapsend Lite V2 is capable of saving  POIs Tracks and routes to GPX format which is compatible with many 3rd party software products including Google Earth. For more information on GPX file format visit http://www.topografix.com/gpx.asp

Q: What if I have a MAC?

A: The map software require a PC operating environment. However, new Macs with intel chips can now run a windows environment natively. Older Macs would require emulation of a windows environment which was always very fiddly process. Please see your Mac genius or professional for more assistance on running a windows environment.
